IoT Comes To Laundry

Who would have thought, years from now, that clothes pegs could ever be called “smart”? There’s nothing more plain and simple than a clothes peg. IoT has taken over laundry to give people more control with the first prototype of an app-connected clothes peg developed by OMO, the detergent brand. At MAKO, we love seeing classic products being revamped and turned into product 2.0 to offer the user the best device possible.

Smart Clothes Peg

The product device connects to the user’s Wi-Fi network and relays the info on their smartphone, anytime and anywhere.

The Smart Clothes Peg has built-in sensors (temperature, humidity and light) that can detect rain, but is also able to connect to the internet to get information about the weather forecast.  Peggy can alert users when it’s going to rain, giving them time to come home and pick up their clothes. This smart device will also share information about the washing and let users know when the best time to do their washing is and when it is dry. Peggy doesn’t limit itself to helping people with their laundry; by using data from the weather forecast, the device will let users know when the sky is clearing up and suggest outdoor activities. This product is mainly targeted at parents, and especially parents who don’t have a lot of time on their hands.

Mother Nature is unpredictable; however, innovation can create tools that will make it less unpredictable for users. OMO’s IoT product is currently in a prototyping phase, users can register on OMO’s website to get their hands on it first. With IoT products growing strong and becoming ubiquitous in people’s homes, laundry is no exception to it. We love to see brands like OMO branching out and constantly innovating to offer users better options, make their lives easier and give them more free time to spend with their loved ones.
